The Data for Children Collaborative Supports MSc Education Futures Student with a New Report on Digital Data in Education with Scottish Secondary Students

The Data for Children Collaborative has played a supportive and advisory role in the development of a new report titled "Digital Data at School: Building Data Education Futures with Secondary School Students in Scotland." The report was created by Kyra Fong, an MSc Education Futures student from the Edinburgh Futures Institute, as part of her postgraduate research.

The Data for Children Collaborative worked alongside Kyra to help develop and deliver her work, offering guidance on ethical and participatory practices and providing support in building her capacity for responsible data research.

Kyra’s report, specifically designed to be a more accessible summary of her research and dissertation outputs, captures the voices of Scottish secondary school students, exploring their experiences with digital data collection and privacy in education, and their ideas for future data education.

Through participatory ‘Digital Data Workshops’, the research highlighted a gap in curriculum opportunities for students to understand how their data is collected and used. This report offers resources and actionable steps for students interested in advocating for better data education practices.

We’re thrilled to have supported Kyra in this important work and encourage you to read the full report.
