Data for Children Collaborative has been shortlisted for the DataIQ 2024 Awards in the Best Ethical Data Initiative category in the Data and AI for Good stream. This category honours a programme that clearly commits to applying an ethical lens to data use.

This nomination recognises the application of the Data for Children Collaborative’s Responsible Innovation (RI) Framework to support collaborative, challenge-led, transdisciplinary data projects through a lens of ethical data practices. The Collaborative uses the RI framework to deliver all its projects. Recently, the practical application of different methods and tools in the framework was exemplified in a project with UNICEF investigating how to develop a methodology for using machine learning to follow online mental health and wellbeing discourse among young people. The tools were crucial in designing and running youth engagement activities to exploring nuances of language used online by youth in partner countries when discussing mental health topics and seeking support.

The DataIQ Awards are prestigious awards in the data and analytics industry that acknowledge companies and individuals who demonstrate excellence in their field.

Data for Children Collaborative and its team members have previously been shortlisted for and won several DataIQ awards, including the Data for Society Award 2022. The Director, Alex Hutchison, won the Data for Good Champion Award in 2021. Fraser Macdonald, Deputy Director, was also honoured as Data for Good Champion in 2023.

The winners of the 2024 DataIQ Awards will be announced on the evening of Thursday, 26th September 2024.
